Victor Osimhen looks set for Galatasaray move
Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker currently under contract with Napoli, is in discussions to join Turkish club Galatasaray on a loan basis.
This move comes after a summer filled with speculation regarding his future, particularly as he was linked with several clubs including Chelsea and Al Ahli from the Saudi Pro League.
Osimhen signed an extension with Napoli in December 2022 that runs until 2026, which includes a hefty release clause of €130 million (approximately $143.91 million).
However, recent developments indicate that he has agreed to a loan deal with Galatasaray for the current season. The terms of this agreement stipulate that Galatasaray will cover 100% of Osimhen’s wages during his loan period.

Additionally, there is a buyout clause included in the loan agreement that allows for a permanent transfer to a top European club starting January 2025 for a fee of €75 million. This arrangement provides Osimhen with an opportunity to continue his development while also keeping options open for potential moves to other clubs in the near future.
Why the move
The decision for Osimhen to join Galatasaray appears influenced by several factors. He turned down offers from Chelsea due to salary disagreements and also declined a lucrative proposal from Al Ahli.
With Mauro Icardi injured, Osimhen’s arrival is expected to significantly enhance Galatasaray’s attacking capabilities as they aim for success both domestically and in European competitions.
The loan deal not only allows him to play regularly but also positions him favorably should he wish to secure a more permanent move either in January or at the end of the season.
Despite agreeing to join Galatasaray, it is important to note that Chelsea and Liverpool have shown interest in Osimhen during this transfer window. Both clubs were reportedly deterred by his wage demands, which may continue to be an issue if they decide to pursue him again in January or next summer.
Osimhen’s impressive track record at Napoli—scoring 76 goals in 133 appearances—has made him one of the most sought-after talents in European football. His performance helped Napoli win their first Serie A title in over three decades during the 2022-23 season.
