Nwankwo Kanu tips Morocco to win 2025 AFCON title
Former Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu has tipped Morocco to host and win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
Having won the competition once in 1976, Kanu, in a chat with Le Site Info, believes the Atlas Lions have some of the best players in Europe at the moment.
The former Arsenal star also lauded the revolution in Moroccan football, emphasising that the team’s achievements are the result of years of hard work.
“Morocco has always boasted great players playing in Europe,” Kanu told Le Site Info.
“But this generation is unparalleled. Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi… The technicality and talent of the entire squad give this team the status of a clear favourite for the upcoming AFCON.”

“I played against Morocco in the AFCON tournaments of 2000 and 2004… They always enter the competition as favorites but often fail to fulfill the dreams of millions of Moroccans.
“By hosting the AFCON at home, Morocco has every chance to be crowned champion.”
He added, “I truly believe that the Atlas Lions will not let the next AFCON slip away, especially since the Kingdom will be the host nation.”
Dominance in qualifiers
Morocco’s dominance of Group B in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifiers continued on Saturday, 12 October as they outclassed Central African Republic to make it three out of three wins in their group.
A clinical display by the Atlas Lions concluded with a 5-0 win for Africa Cup of Nations hosts, as they build momentum to staging the biggest event on African soil.
Assedine Ounahi’s first half brace alongside Adbe Essalzouli, Achraf Hakimi and Soufiane Rahimi’s goals ensured Morocco’s third straight win of the group.
The Atlas Lions now lead the pack with a healthy five points, ahead of Gabon who played out to a goalless draw with Lesotho on Friday evening.
While the North Africans lead the pack, the race continues to be an exciting one for Group B when the fixtures resume for Match Day 04 of the qualifiers as Gabon travel down south to Lesotho for the return leg on Tuesday.
Central African Republic will be hoping to redeem themselves and put Saturday’s misery behind them when they welcome the Atlas Lions for the return leg on the same evening.
