Ex-Kano anti-graft boss, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, regains freedom, freed from prison
Former chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has been released from prison.
Nigerian Sketch reports that he was released on Saturday after spending a night at the correctional centre.
He regained his freedom on Saturday after meeting his bail conditions on Friday.
Reports said he could only process his release on Saturday because court officials were not available to attend to his administrative part of his release process on Friday.
A Kano Magistrate’s Court presided over by Senior Magistrate Aminu Gabari on Friday granted Rimingado bail after he was arraigned.
Mr Rimingado was charged with the offence of giving false information, contrary to section 149 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2019.
He pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
Ruling on his bail application, Gabari granted Rimingado bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties who shall be his blood relations.
The court similarly ordered that the defendant shall bring the Chief Imam of Sharada Friday Mosque or the village head of Sharada as part of the bail conditions.
The court also ordered him to deposit his international passport to the court registry for onwards transmission to the office of Kano State Chief Registrar.
Rimingado was arrested on Thursday at the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where he went for screening as Kano governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party.
