Hajiya Dada, Yar’adua’s mother, dies aged 102
Hajiya Dada Yar’adua, the mother of former Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, has passed away at the age of 102.
She died on Monday evening at the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina after a protracted illness. Her death has been met with an outpouring of condolences from various prominent figures and members of the community.
Legacy and family
Dada Yar’adua was a significant figure in Nigeria, known for being the matriarch of a family that produced several influential politicians. Her children include Umaru Yar’adua, who served as President of Nigeria from 2007 until his death in 2010; Shehu Yar’adua, who was a former Chief of Staff under military rule; and Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, who is currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements
Hajiya Dada is scheduled to be laid to rest according to Islamic customs. The burial will take place in Katsina State on Tuesday where many sympathizers have gathered to pay their respects.
She was a gem, Atiku mourns Yar’adua’s mother
Former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has condoled with the Yar’adua family over the demise of Hajia Dada Yar’Adua, describing her as a gem of inestimable value, adding that she would be missed.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Atiku said he is “saddened by the passing of Hajia Aya Dada Yar’Adua, mother of my late mentor, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, among others.”
Atiku said, “In the absence of my beloved mother, I adopted Hajiya Dada as a mother. Indeed, she was a mother of multitudes, as her home was always a place of refuge where she welcomed everyone with love.

“She will be sorely missed. On behalf of the Atiku Abubakar family and team, I express my profound condolences to the Yar’Adua family, friends and associates over the loss of this gem of inestimable value.

Governor Radda pays condolence visits to Yar’adua’s family
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has paid a condolence visit to the Yar’adua family following the passing of Hajiya Dada Yar’adua.
A statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said Radda cut short his engagements in Daura to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.
He was accompanied by key members of his administration, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, and other members of the State Executive Council.
According to the statement, the governor expressed profound sorrow at the loss and praised Hajiya Dada for her exemplary life and contributions to the community.
He offered prayers for the repose of her soul and asked Allah to grant her eternal rest. Governor Radda also prayed for strength and fortitude for the family to bear the loss.
He urged the family to take solace in Hajiya Dada’s remarkable legacy and continue her good works in service to humanity.
