Ikhana counsels Enyimba fc on Finidi George
Enyimba football club of Aba have been advised no to rush into taking decision to sack Finidi George as their chief coach, considering the dwindling fortune of the club.
Enyimba’s have not shown any sign of capacity to perform appreciably in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season.
A former coach of the club, Kadiri Ikhana, dropped this advice, urging the club management to give George reasonable time to improve on the performance of the club.
Ikhana holds the view that George has not yet adapted fully to the environment in the club.
Their weekend loss to Dakkada FC sent them down the league table at the 8th position.
Meanwhile, Enyimba were slated to face Plateau United next, and Ikhana believes the club should still support and encourage George irrespective of the result from the game.
Ikhana said the club should not be in hurry to sack him George who has stayed in Europe for so long, and is still struggling to adapt to the Nigerian situation.
He added that George should be allowed to understand the Nigerian terrain, the attitudes of players and even the fans.
Born in Port Harcourt, Finidi played for three clubs in Nigeria. In 1993, he arrived at AFC Ajax alongside compatriot Nwankwo Kanu. His impact with the Amsterdam side was immediate as he scored four goals in 27 games to help them win the Eredivisie title, which was also achieved in the following two seasons; additionally, as a starter, he appeared in consecutive UEFA Champions League finals, winning the 1994–95 edition against A.C. Milan.
