Respite for Ganduje as APC postpones National Caucus, NEC meetings indefinitely
The national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling political party, Abdullahi Ganduje, has gotten some respite from the continuous threat of losing his seat, as the party postponed its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings indefinitely.
Ganduje’s seat was being targeted by other party members, especially from northcentral Nigeria, who believe the position should be reserved for their region under an acclaimed consensual party arrangement. Ganduje is holding the position on a temporary basis, pending the party’s national convention.
But the shifting of the two meetings, which were said to be preludes to the national convention, could mean that the convention may not hold any time soon.

The APC had fixed September 11 and 12 for the two meetings respectively following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The party also published advertorials, asking members of the two organs to attend.
But the APC national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, announced the postponement of the two meetings in a statement on Monday night.
Morka said new dates for the meetings would be communicated in due course.
The statement reads in part, “Members of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are hereby informed that the National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings scheduled to be held on September 11 and 12, 2024, respectively, have been postponed.”
The party did not state any reason for the postponement.
However, party sources said President Tinubu’s change in schedule regarding his return to Nigeria was responsible for the last-minute postponement.
the sources said Ganduje was summoned to the Presidential Villa on Monday, where he was informed that the president would not be back in time for the meetings, forcing the postponement.
One source familiar with the situation said, “The President was supposed to return from China to Nigeria on Sunday, but instead, he left for Paris. By Monday, it became clear that he would not make it back in time, so the meetings had to be postponed.”
