Tyrese Gibson arrested over failure to pay ex-wife monthly $10k child support
Tyrese Gibson, a well-known U.S. actor and musician, was recently arrested due to his failure to comply with a court order regarding child support payments.
The court mandated that he pay $10,000 per month to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee, for the support of their five-year-old daughter, Soraya. This order was put into effect in April 2023.
During a hearing at the Fulton County court, Judge Kevin Farmer expressed frustration over Gibson’s noncompliance with the child support payments. Despite being ordered to pay $10,000 monthly, reports indicate that Gibson had only been making payments of approximately $2,200 per month. As a result of this ongoing nonpayment, Judge Farmer held Gibson in contempt of court.

Following the contempt ruling, Tyrese Gibson was taken into custody by the bailiff and handcuffed in the courtroom. However, Judge Farmer provided an opportunity for Gibson to avoid jail time by offering him a chance to settle his debts. Specifically, he was instructed to pay a total of $73,000 to cover the overdue child support as well as attorney fees incurred by Samantha Lee’s legal team amounting to $7,500.
In light of these developments, Tyrese Gibson has publicly maintained his innocence and suggested that there is bias against him in this case. He has claimed that he has been unfairly treated by both the judge and his ex-wife’s legal representation.
In social media posts leading up to his court appearance, he indicated that he anticipated potential arrest due to these ongoing legal battles.
Gibson is reportedly working on arrangements to pay off the owed amount so that he can secure his release from custody.
