Zazzau Prince Umar Shehu Idris dies in auto crash
On October 8, 2024, a tragic incident occurred when Alhaji Umar Shehu Idris, a prince of Zazzau and the son of the late Emir of Zazzau, lost his life in an auto crash along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
He was 41 years old at the time of his death.
Online News was told that he served as the Assistant Secretary to the Zazzau Emirate Council and was known by the traditional title of Dan Isan Zazzau.
The accident took place on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was confirmed by Mallam Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai, who serves as the Media and Publicity Officer for the Zazzau Emirate. The announcement of his passing was made through various media outlets, including social media platforms where the emirate expressed their condolences with a statement that included “INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIR RAJI’UN!!!” This phrase reflects a submission to divine will in Islam.

Alhaji Umar Shehu Idris is survived by two wives and two children. His death is particularly poignant as it follows closely after the passing of his biological mother, who was also connected to the royal lineage as she was married to the late Emir Dr. Shehu Idris and was the mother-in-law of the current Emir, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli. The burial arrangements for Alhaji Umar Shehu Idris were stated to be announced in due time.
This unfortunate event has drawn attention not only due to his royal status but also because it highlights issues related to road safety in Nigeria, particularly on major highways like Kaduna-Abuja.
