Citizen urges Kano govt to investigate disappearance of COVID-19 facilities at Sani Abacha Stadium
Kano State government has been called upon to investigate the state ministry of health and its affiliates concerned with the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
A concerned citizen of the state who identified himself as Musa Aramma made this call while speaking with a Kano-based online news medium, NigerianSketch, on the state of affairs in the fight against the pandemic in the state.
Aramma said there was the need for the government to find out what has happened to all the facilities provided for isolation and treatment of COVID-19 at Sani Abacha Stadium, alleging that most of those items may have been carted away.
According to him, officials of the health ministry, especially the commissioner owe the state an explanation. He also said officials of the state sports commission “under whose care the stadium is vested must point out who removed all the facilities and where they are taken to.”
NigerianSketch said its reporter visited the stadium and found that all the facilities provided for the pandemic’s management have disappeared. Most of those facilities were provided by Aliko Dangote in 2020 when COVID-19 was at the height of its spread across the globe.
An official of the state sports commission who declined to be named said the commission was not privy to the incidents leading to the removal of the facilities.
He said the stadium has been closed to the usual official sporting activities since the outbreak of the pandemic, especially after it was converted a healthcare-giving centre.
“As I speak to you today, Kano Pillars do not play their home matches in Kano because Sani Abacha Stadium is not available to them. And why is it not available? As far as I know, it is still a healthcare-giving centre. You asked where are the facilities brought here in 2020. The answer is I don’t know.
“As you can see, they are not here, but I can’t tell you where they are taken to because I don’t know,” he said.
As of the time this story was published, NigerianSketch said it was still making efforts to get the response of the state ministry of health.
