HANIFA ABUBAKAR: Suspects to face trial at Kano State High Court
The suspects in the murder of Hanifa Abubakar will face culpable homicide case at the Kano State High Court No 6, presided over by Hon Justice Usman Na’abba.
Magistrate’s Court 12, sitting at Gidan Murtala presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered on Tuesday the case involving suspect Abdulmalik Tanko and his accomplices be transferred to the State High Court as her court lack jurisdiction.
Lead Prosecution counsel, Aisha Mahmoud, applied for the transfer of the case, saying “The offences alleged to have been committed by the defendants are not triable by this court. So, we are applying for a count charge before the High Court.”
The court thereafter ordered the suspects to be remanded in prison custody before re-arraignment at the High Court.
Tanko, 34; and his accomplices, Hashim Isyaku, 37; and Fatima Jibrin, 26, all residents of Tudun Murtala in Nasarawa local government area of the state were docked over criminal conspiracy, kidnap, confinement and culpable homicide contrary to sections 97, 274, 277, 221 of the Penal Code.
The suspects were accused of kidnapping and subsequently murdering little Hanifa with rat poison. They buried her in a shallow grave at a school premises.
