Oba Yoruba Kano floats Intercommunity Peace Cup, pledges to sponsor football talents
The Oba Yoruba Kano, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese, has announced that he intends to utilize the unifying force of football to pursue the end of peaceful co-existence of all communities residing in Kano State.
He told reporters on Saturday at Kano Pillars Stadium that he has since realised that football “carries the message of peace globally, and I wish to replicate this in Nigeria, and in Kano State particularly.”
The Oba, who was at the stadium to give a pep talk to the various youth clubs who intend to participate in the tournament, also had a briefing with the press.
He pledged his readiness to promote and sponsor any exceptional young talent discovered during the tournament to pursue a professional career.
The chairman of the competition’s Local Organising Committee, Idris Malikawa Garu, who was represented by the secretary, Abdulgafar Oladimeji, urged clubs to ensure that they do the needful “in terms of preparation, good selections, display of skills and good manners during the tournament.
“It is entirely your responsibility to give good account of yourselves and give the sponsor the courage to promote the career of the promising talents you bring forth.”
He said the tournament has been scheduled to commence on the 9th of October, 2022 and called upon interested clubs to come register, as participation is open and free.
