Police CID exhibiting visible bias in my case, Reps Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa says
The majority leader of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, Alhasan Ado Doguwa, has decried the manner in which the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nigeria Police is conducting its investigation in his alleged homicide case.
An aide of the lawmaker, who spoke with the press on his behalf, said the CID top shot who is conducting the investigations in the case has shown so much eagerness in the matter that his interest has been revealed to be personal.
Doguwa said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of CID, Umar Dankadai, is a blood relation to Nura Dankadai, a politician whose party the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) is the nominal complainant in the matter.
He alleged that the DG CID could not “even restrain himself and have the balanced disposition to assign the case to, at least, an outwardly unbiased and uninterested investigator.”
He lamented over what he called “the seeming politicization of the investigating authorities in my case”, saying he deserves to be “accorded every right that is accruable to every Nigerian citizen under the Nigerian laws. I have the right to be treated as an innocence person until I’m proven guilty in a fair trial.
He was reported to have said his trial was masterminded by his political foes, insisting that he was not involved in the shooting of anyone during the last presidential and National Assembly election in the state.
He said the police refused to look into his petitions which he logged before the election, about how men of the rival political party attacked his property and razed his cars, adding that it seems very convenient for the police to turn deaf ears at that instance.
He was quoted to have said he was ready to face trial, but he demanded that the trial must be fair.
“I’m a law-abiding citizen. I’m not above the law. I’m ready to face trial, only that justice must not only be done, it must be seen to have been done. I did not shoot a gun at anyone.
