“Ogun for Ogun”: Kano-based indigenes rally support for PDP deputy guber candidate, Kolapo
Indigenes of Ogun State resident in Kano rolled out the red carpet on Thursday to welcome Hajia Yemi Kolapo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections.
Despite receiving short notice of her visit to the northern commercial hub for some programs, scores of community members quickly mobilized to host her. The enthusiastic turnout transformed into an impromptu political endorsement session, with diaspora leaders pledging their total backing for the joint ticket of Hon. Ladi Adebutu and Kolapo while emphasizing the urgent need for youth and women empowerment.

Speaking during the welcome reception, the President of the Ogun State Indigenes Association in Kano, Alhaji Lateef Faisu Alamu, expressed profound delight over the interaction. He commended Kolapo for adjusting her flight schedule at short notice to accommodate them, describing the gesture as a true reflection of inclusive leadership. Alamu sent a message back home to Adebutu declaring the 2027 race as an “Ogun for Ogun” movement. He noted that diaspora indigenes maintain robust political structures back home, travel back frequently to participate in elections, and are deeply invested in the state’s trajectory.
The association’s president pointed out that the gathering featured accomplished professionals, including medical doctors, lawyers, and business executives. He stressed that despite their successes, many qualified graduates continue to struggle for meaningful employment, making youth empowerment a critical priority that any incoming administration must tackle. Echoing these sentiments, general secretary H.O. Salami and former legal adviser Imam Abdulyaqeen Olugbenga Abduljaleel offered fervent prayers for the success of the PDP ticket, assuring the candidate of massive bloc votes from the diaspora community.
Responding to the overwhelming display of affection, Kolapo assured the gathering that the PDP is fundamentally committed to job creation and inclusive development. She explained that their campaign slogan, “ITURA DE”—meaning relief and comfort has come—is firmly rooted in competence, compassion, and structural reform.
Kolapo praised Adebutu for his consistent, long-standing dedication to the welfare of Ogun citizens across all local government areas, even outside of elective office. Urging Ogun indigenes across Northern Nigeria to take absolute ownership of their home state’s political destiny, she warned against external political overreach and encouraged active grassroots mobilization.
”Ogun for Ogun is our reality for building a solid foundation for the future of our children and grandchildren. We won’t become second-class citizens in our own homeland,” Kolapo stated. The high-spirited engagement concluded with special prayers for her safe return as the PDP steps up its nationwide electioneering activities.
